This was a rather beat-up cutting board that I had for many years. I planed it on the CNC machine and then applied some food grade finishing oil and wax.

First inlay in a real cutting board
Here's my first attempt at inlay in a real cutting board. It came out reasonably well but there are some flaws due to chipouts in the bamboo.

Experiments with inlay using the CNC machine
After much failure, here's an example of an inlay that turned out well. It is walnut end-grain inlaid into maple. The pocket is 0.2" deep. The vee cut was done using a 30-degree engraving bit and the flat pocket was done using a 1/8" flat mill.
These are stainless steel and brass inlays in walnut. The metals are about 0.015" thick.
